Tools and resources I use
In localization projects, Computer-Assisted Translation (CAT) tools are indispensable for managing complex workflows and maintaining consistency. However, the localization quality assurance (LQA) workflow is far simpler and more compartmentalized, allowing for a more straightforward approach.
For LQA, we typically rely on basic tools like a test kit, reference material and several Excel documents, which are often sufficient for the task at hand.
The test kit is an essential tool for efficiently progressing through video games, enabling us to cover large volumes of text in a shorter time frame. This is made possible by the “debug” versions of games, which are equipped with cheats. These versions allow us to level up freely or quickly spawn anywhere within the game, to give just a couple of examples.
Excel documents, in turn, usually contain all the necessary information, along with clear instructions for the work. They also serve as a log for testers to record changes, ensuring that translators have everything they need to follow up, unless the client uses a specific tool. In any case, I always ensure the necessary settings are in place before starting if working remotely.
